MRI information

Definition of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): Called magnetic resonance imaging or MRI, it is a type of medical imaging that uses magnetic fields to create detailed images of the body’s organs.

If you have an Inspire Model 3028, you can have MRI scans of the head and limbs, provided certain guidelines are followed. To find out which Inspire model you have, please ask your doctor or check your patient ID card. There is a YELLOW MRI TRIANGLE on the back of the patient ID card if you have the Inspire model 3028. If this is the case, you may have MRI scans of the head and limbs, provided certain guidelines are followed.

If there is no YELLOW MRI TRIANGLE on the back of the patient ID card, you have Inspire Model 3024 and are not eligible for MRI exams. However, CT, X-ray and ultrasound examinations can be performed on your entire body. It is important to note that all Inspire patients can have CT, X-ray and ultrasound examinations of the whole body.

Click here for more information about the MRT guidelines.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR INSPIRE DOCTOR.

Frequently asked questions

For instructions on how to operate the Inspire remote control, first refer to the Inspire Remote Control Quick Start Guide. If you continue to have problems, please contact your Inspire doctor.

When you feel comfortable, increase your therapy settings by one step every few nights by pressing (+). If you find the new step uncomfortable, press (-) to go back one step. Once you have found a level that helps you sleep comfortably and restfully, maintain the intensity. You do not need to increase the intensity to the top level. Most patients increase the intensity by at least 5 steps in the first four to six weeks.

The fine-tuning sleep study will take place when you and your doctor decide you are ready for it. This usually happens a few months after the activation of Inspire.

Please tell your dentist that you have an implanted device. All precautions should be taken that should be taken with other implanted devices such as pacemakers, and the dentist should keep all electrical devices such as the dental drill as far away from your implant as possible. The procedure must not be continued if you perceive stimulation.

If you have misplaced your remote control, contact your Inspire doctor’s office immediately. Please note that you will be charged for a new remote control.

Mammograms are not a problem under Inspire therapy. You should tell the professional that you have implanted a device and show where it is located.

If you have lost or not received your Inspire ID card, please contact your Inspire doctor's office.

All Inspire patients can undergo most imaging procedures on the whole body, including CT scans, ultrasounds and X-rays. Depending on the model of your Inspire system, you may be able to undergo MRI of the head and limbs, subject to certain conditions and precautions. Please check your Inspire patient ID card to see if you can have an MRI under certain conditions. If there is a yellow MRI triangle on the back of your patient ID card, you have an Inspire Model 3028 and you can have MRI scans of the head and limbs, provided certain guidelines are followed. If there is no yellow MRI triangle on the back of the patient ID card, you have Inspire Model 3024 and are not eligible for MRI examinations.

Over time, the stimulation from Inspire therapy may feel less intense. This is completely normal and part of the process of getting used to it. Remember that you can check that the stimulation is on at any time using your Inspire remote control. If you have any concerns, contact your Inspire doctor’s office.

If you are having a pacemaker or other device implanted, ask the doctor in charge to contact your Inspire doctor before the operation. The doctors then discuss how the two devices can be tested intraoperatively to ensure that there are no interactions.

If the remote control does not work, first try replacing the batteries. If this does not help, call your Inspire doctor and make an appointment for troubleshooting.

If you have a model 3032 Inspire remote control, remove the bottom half of the front of the remote control. A new 9 V battery is required. If you have a 2500 model Inspire remote control, remove the bottom half of the back of the remote control. Two AAA batteries are required. For more information, see the instruction manual for your Inspire remote control.

Tell the security guard that you have an implanted device and show your medical device card. It is no problem to pass through the body scanner (terahertz scanner) and the metal detector, but pass through swiftly without lingering. For more information, contact your Inspire clinician or refer to the Inspire manual.
